Everyone has heard the idiom “music is medicine for the soul” but there is research showing that music helps decrease anxiety at times of crisis and stress. In many studies, music has been shown to help relieve stress during physical and psychological illness, including dementia, depression and cancer.

  • Select your favorite music that is meaningful and soothing for you.
  • Any time is the right time, but evening time may be most important.
  • Be respectful of others in your home and use headphones.

Music “therapy” can be essential for caregivers and first line responders to help them reduce anxiety throughout the day, and especially at the end of the day when sleep is so important.
