Birmingham Maple Clinic welcomed Derek Scott, a certified IFS therapist and Registered Social Worker from London, ON for a full day course on Internal Family Systems. Along with clinicians from Wentworth and Associates, Birmingham Maple Clinic therapists learned about the IFS model, watched case presentations and learned therapeutic skills associated with this treatment modality.
Internal Family Systems work is about understanding the personality as a complex system rather than a single unit. Once a person grasps this multi-natured approach then they learn how to work with their internal critical voice as an ally instead of an adversary. This psycho-spiritual model was developed by Dr. Richard Schwartz, founder of Internal Family Systems.
