Scientific research has discovered an important link between stress and aging.
How many times have you said, “I’m so stressed out” or heard your friends or co-workers exclaim, “This stress is killing me!” Stress is an inevitable part of life; we have all experienced it, but research shows that chronic or significant stress can have profound consequences on the aging process.
Both psychologically and biologically, the toll of prolonged stress accelerates cell damage, leading not only to visible changes like wrinkles and thinning hair, but also to more serious internal effects such as cognitive decline and increased susceptibility to disease.
As our population ages, it is important to understand some of the factors behind stress-related aging so that we have a chance to develop strategies to better manage our emotions and promote long-term psychological and biological health.
