On April 5, 2013 Dr. Lila Massoumi, MD, ABIHM, visited Birmingham Maple Clinic for an educational seminar on integrative medicine. Dr. Lila Massoumi, an integrative psychiatrist, combines “alternative” or “complementary” treatment modalities (e.g. nutritional supplements, herbals, treatments from the ancient healing systems of China or India) with conventional care.
Dr. Massoumi explained treatment techniques utilized in her practice and provided education about scientific studies that support these practices. Birmingham Maple Clinic therapists learned about the fundamental principles behind conventional, alternative, and integrative approaches to medicine, as well as, the effect of various supplements on mental health issues such as anxiety, PTSD, and depression.
Birmingham Maple Clinic therapists value education from and collaboration with health professionals in the community. As in Dr. Massoumi’s practice, Birmingham Maple Clinic therapists recognize patients as unique individuals and create a comprehensive treatment plan to address each client’s specific needs.
