On November 14, 2012 Birmingham Maple Clinic exhibited at the Michigan Wellness Council event at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Michigan. The Michigan Wellness Council, a statewide spin off of Troy Chamber’s Oakland County Wellness Coalition, seeks to provide businesses with better health information and inspire successful integration of wellness best practices in the workplace through access to quality resources and forums. Today’s meeting featured Rochelle Hurst. Ms. Hurst is Manager of Cardiovascular Health, Nutrition and Physical Activity Section at Michigan Department of Community Health. She spoke about a plan initiated by Governor Snyder to assist Michigan Worksites Multiply the Effectiveness of the 4 x 4 Plan.
The 4×4 plan lays out strategies for reducing obesity and improving health and wellness. The plan seeks to improve 4 key behaviors of Michigan residents: maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in regular exercise, get an annual physical examination, and avoiding tobacco use.
The purpose of today’s meeting was to activate health care professionals in Michigan to begin the discussion of preventative health care and wellness with their patients. The meeting coincides with #Movember, Blue Cross Blue Shields social awareness campaign to improve understanding of Men’s health issues, National Diabetes Awareness Month, and Universal Children’s Health Day.
