RECESSION THERAPY
A program for those feeling overwhelmed by the recent and unprecedented economic downturn
Focus is on dealing with stress by providing alternative perspectives and strategies for coping
One intake Appointment followed by 4 Group Sessions:
1. Introduction of members; "Getting Acquainted" 2. Evaluating and changing unhealthy perspectives 3. Sharing individual experiences; "Getting Feedback" 4. Summing up; "What We've Got and Where We're Going

Young Adults and Youth Substance Abuse Therapy Groups
For Young Adults between 18 and 25 who are sincere about recovery and in need of A Substance Abuse Aftercare Recovery or Recovery Group:
- As an adjunct to AA/NA meetings
- As an adjunct to treatment/therapy
- Combined with other services at Birmingham Maple Clinic
- Intake Evaluation Required
- Participants may start at any time
- Group session may be partially covered by insurance
- Evidence Based
- Adheres to Disease Concept of Addiction
- Focus on Relapse Prevention
- Requires Accountability

Adult Survivors of Sexual Abuse Therapy Group
For men and women who have been sexually abused
- Resolve past and current impact of sexual abuse on self and others
- Learn to manage confusion, fear, anger, guilt, shame and mistrust related to the abuse
- Develop techniques to manage dissociation, flashbacks, triggers and related symptoms
- Rebuild social interaction skills, self awareness and self esteem
- Acquire new methods to enhance intimacy in significant relationships

Mood Disorder Therapy
For adult men and women with a bipolar or depression diagnosis
- Develop capacity to recognize, accept and manage feelings, thoughts and other symptoms of mood disorders
- Understand importance of medication, therapy, exercise and self-caring strategies
- Increase self-worth and ability to function in social situations
- Eliminate feelings of hopelessness and helplessness
- Utilize a more assertive approach to life

Male Sexual Addiction Group
For adult men involved in any form of sexual addiction
- Increase awareness of effects of person's behavior on himself and others
- Resolve past trauma and other underlying issues which may be related to addiction
- Learn to identify cycle of addiction, thinking errors and risk factors
- Utilize strategies to prevent relapse
- Develop improved ways to identify and manage thoughts, feelings and behavior Understand the essential elements of healthy sexual contact

Adult Sex Offenders Group
For males 17 and over who have committed any form of sexual abuse
- Accept responsibility and consequences of assaultive behavior
- Understand and acknowledge damage done to everyone connected to the victim and the offender
- Recognize and correct thinking errors
- Develop coping strategies to deal with both internal and external risk factors
- Present to group particular "cycle of offending behavior"
- Resolve past trauma and other events which may be related to offending behavior
- Identify and manage boundaries in regards to thoughts, feelings and behavior
- Develop a useful relapse prevention plan

Group for Juveniles Who Have Sexually Offended
For boys 16 and under who have committed any form of sexually abuse behavior
Goals are the same as the above group plus:
- Additional work on developmental issues
- Improving functioning at home, at school and the community

Adolescent Socialization Group
2 groups: for young men ages 13-15 and those 16-18 who are having difficulty with personal and social interactions for any reason
- Develop an increase in self awareness and self esteem
- Improve social skills needed for healthy interpersonal and social relationships
- Identify and resolve underlying issues impeding positive socialization
- Understand variety of age appropriate issues typical to adolescent development

Mr. O'Neil's therapy groups are:
- Goal directed
- Cognitive/behavioral and psycho-educational
- Meet weekly, primarily in the early evening
- Between 6 and 8 members
- Persons join when ready
- Varying lengths of stay - usually 6 to 24 months
